RCSEd & Medtronic National Student Surgical Skills Competition offers all medical students the chance to stretch their skills by competing against their peers from across the UK.

Tasks
The three tasks you are required to perform on a banana in your video for marking are:
Task 1 – Simple interrupted suture
Task 2 – Running suture
Task 3 – Horizontal mattress suture
- For all sutures, the incision is 5cm. You do not need to record yourself making the incision.
- You are required to use the suture as provided in your kit.
- Please use an instrument tie for all skills.
How to upload your video?
You will need to upload each video to YouTube as a UNLISTED video (you can use other video upload systems if you would like – just make sure it is a private video and that you can share a link to it with us). Please title each video with your name and the skill that you are doing. Once you have the links to all three videos, please add them to the video links form HERE by Monday 13 January at midnight. We recommend not leaving your upload until the last minute as videos take time to upload.

- Download the App and sign in
- On the bottom of your phone, click the + sign and select the video you’d like to upload
- Title your video with your full name and the skill you are doing in that video
- Change your visibility to ‘Unlisted’
- Click Next to upload your video
- Once it uploads, click into your video and click ‘share’. Copy the link and that will be used when submitting all three videos to the MS form.
- Make sure all three videos are on your computer
- Login to YouTube on your computer
- Click the ‘camera’ icon on the top right of the screen (when you hover over it, it says ‘create’)
- Click upload video and add your video
- Title your video with your full name and the skill you are doing in that video. No other information on this screen is needed.
- Click Next
- No information is needed on the ‘Video Elements’ or ‘Checks’ screens. Click Next through both.
- For visibility, click ‘Unlisted’
- Click Save
- Copy the video link to be added to the MS form for submission

- Videos will be uploaded to your choice of youtube or vimeo via an unlisted link – directions on how to do so are above. We require 3 separate videos, 1 for each task and please name your video as shown below:

Each video should be no longer than 3 minutes.
Place your phone in the stand and position until your phone can take a bird’s eye view of you carrying out the surgical tasks. Please video only your hands and keep your face out of the video to keep it anonymous. We recommend putting the phone stand on top of a few books to give you the higher up view.
