The College is proud to support COSECSA in the administration of the Rahima Dawood Travelling Fellowship. The awardee will travel to countries of COSECSA to lecture and teach in their speciality area.
The selection of this awardee is conducted through COSECSA.
Tuanku Muhriz Fellowship in Rural Surgery
Deadline: 01 March 2025
The Tuanku Muhriz Fellowship in rural surgery aims to provide one awardee with the opportunity to gain further experience and training in rural surgery in Malaysia.
Applications should either be:
- Surgeons who are Higher Surgical Trainees who have not yet attained Consultant grade.
- Trainee General Surgeons, around the time of their appointment to a Consultant post, to enable them to study in centres with particular expertise relating to the rural surgery;
- Surgeons making short visits to learn new surgical techniques, or to work in centres developing a rural surgery service.
All applications must be based, or have trained, in the UK.

Saleem Khwaja Memorial Fellowship in Peadiatric Surgery

In recognition of Professor Saleem Khwaja’s remarkable life, working in the UK, Africa and Middle East as a paediatric surgeon, RCSEd is proud to support the Saleem Khwaja Memorial Fellowship. Professor Khwaja contributed widely to the specialties’ knowledge on neonatal surgery and paediatric surgery in the tropics and had a passion for teaching the next generation of paediatric surgeons.
As such, the Saleem Khwaja Memorial Fellowship will provide funding of up to £5000, for one Higher Surgical Trainee or Junior Consultant (up to two years post appointment) to travel abroad to gain further education or training, or to offer charitable service to an international centre.

Elizabeth Anita Mathew Thalanany ENT Travelling Fellowship

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is delighted to welcome applications from those in ENT training posts, for the new Elizabeth Anita Mathew Thalanany ENT Travelling Fellowship. The Fellowship intends to support UK and International members who wish to attend a course or an observership at a center of excellence, as part of their specialist training and professional development.
Up to £1000 is available for travel and accommodation costs.
This funding opportunity has been made possible by the generous donation of the Thalanany family in memory of Mathew Joseph Mammen Thalanany, FRCSEd, and his daughter Elizabeth Anita Mathew Thalanany.

The Alban Barros D'Sa Memorial Travelling Fellowship in General Surgery

Due to the generous support of the family of the late Mr Barros D’Sa, RCSEd is delighted to invite Higher Surgical Trainees, who have not yet attained Consultant grade to apply for the Alban Barros D’Sa Memorial Travelling Fellowship.
This fellowship aims to support young surgeons by supplementing costs, of up to £1000, associated with attending international educational meetings and conferences.
Applications are welcome from Members and Fellows both in the UK and abroad.

The Cutner Travelling Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery
Deadline: 01 June 2025
Due to a generous donation by the Cutner family, RCSEd is able to award up to £3000 in funding to support orthopaedic surgeons in their travel to speciality centres to learn or develop orthopaedic surgical skills.
Applications are welcome from Core Trainees, Specialty Trainees, SAS doctors, LEDs and Consultants (up to two years after obtaining consultant grade) who are a Member or Fellow of the College in the UK or internationally.
