The Professional Standards Office (PSO) is responsible for ensuring that the RCSEd’s core educational, examination and audit activities are focused on continuously improving patient care and surgical standards.
The PSO is based in the College's Birmingham centre and led by RCSEd Vice President Mr Tim Graham.
We do this by:
- Helping healthcare organisations recruit consultants, specialty doctor or honorary consultant posts.
- Providing specialist input into Advisory Appointment Committees.
- Undertaking professional reviews and participating in external audits and service reviews.
- Engaging with medical regulators, NHS inspectors, Trust and Health Boards, NHS policy makers and medical educators.
- Delivering high quality surgical training, either directly or through accredited providers.
- Providing Standards for Surgical Trainers.
- Offering international medical graduates high quality training places through our International Postgraduate Deanery.
- Closely liaising with the RCSEd examinations and international committees.
