Heritage

Support over 500 years of history

Surgeons’ Hall is an integral part of Edinburgh's World Heritage Site. With heritage listed buildings and museum, library, and archive collections dating back to 1460, it is a unique, internationally significant resource providing enjoyment and education across a range of audiences both onsite and online.

Ongoing investment is required to care for, develop, and share our remarkable heritage, ensuring its accessibility for generations to come. As a private museum we receive no public funding, therefore donations are essential for its future. This support is vital for us to continue to offer our world class exhibits, events, workshops, and activities.

Your Next Breath

Donations from our Heritage supporters contributed to the creation of ‘Your Next Breath’, a figure group unveiled in 2022, dedicated to the NHS staff who worked tirelessly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Crafted by Kenny Hunter, this sculpture can be found in the grounds of RCSEd.

Professor Michael Griffin OBE, Immediate Past President of RCSEd, said:

I hope that this memorial, which will now be situated permanently within our College grounds, will encourage visitors for years to come to consider how much healthcare workers sacrificed and how vital they were throughout this period.
