This webinar will provide a brief introduction to the importance of sleep and sleep disordered breathing.

What do GDPs need to know about snoring and how should we screen for it in practice? The webinar will include an overview of treatment modalities  for snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.

  • Give GDPs confidence to screen in practice and discuss the importance with their patients.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should:

  • Be aware of the spectrum of sleep related breathing disorders

  • Know the causes of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA)

  • Know how to screen for snoring and OSA

  • Know where to refer (if appropriate for testing and treatment)

  • Be able to discuss treatment options.

Panellists

Our panellists include:

  • Dr Charlotte Leigh - Dr Charlotte Leigh is a general dental practitioner, prating at Montagu Dental in Marylebone. Charlotte provides routine dentistry but is passionate about treating (adult) patients who suffer with sleep disordered breathing. Charlotte works with leading physicians and medical professionals throughout the UK to provide up-to-date treatment for all her clients, including ear nose and throat surgeons, sleep physicians, myofunctional therapists, physiotherapists and GPs. She has frequently been featured in the press and been published in the British Dental Journal on the subject She has a passion for providing bespoke solutions that improve not only improve the oral health of her patients, but their general health, complimenting the holistic nature of her approach.  

  • Dr Lochana Nanayakkara - RCSEd Convener of Dental Education. Dr Lochana Nanayakkara is an NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Royal London Dental Hospital. She is also the current Director of Dental Education for BartsHealth NHS Trust and the co-Director of the DClinDent programme in Prosthodontics at Queen Mary, University of London. She has a clinical interest in managing patients with complicated medical histories. Since 2010, Lochana has been actively working with the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) to improve global access to dental care for people with inherited bleeding disorders. She is now the President of the Dental Committee of WFH.
