The Faculty of Dental Trainers (FDT) and Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) were invited to be a key part of the 2024 South-East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 25-27 November.
Day 1 of the conference saw their second Malaysia Dental Non-Technical Skills (DeNTS) course, attended by 30 delegates from the universities across the South-East Asia region.
DeNTS course
On days 2 and 3, Dr Sarah Manton and Grant McIntyre participated in various parts of the conference. They were given a slot for the Deans’ Forum, attended by 50 university dental school Deans across the ASEAN region. Key contributors to the course included Dr Sarah Manton, Mr Gabriel Lee from the Faculty of Dentistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and RCSEd Dental Dean Grant McIntyre. The event also featured posters and oral presentations focused on technology-enhanced learning and teaching methodologies. They were judged by Dr Sarah Manton and Grant McIntyre, with prizes sponsored by the FDT and culminated with a Gala dinner.

Lunch meeting with Malaysian Dental Council
Dr Sarah Manton and Grant McIntyre met representatives of the Malaysian Dental Council on 28 November to discuss the recently established dental specialist registers in Malaysia, the routes for holders of RCSEd specialty membership qualifications, as well as opportunities for delivering further specialty membership examinations in Malaysia. These aspects are being followed up.
The strong relationship fostered with SEAADE during this visit is expected to enhance future collaborations, with Dr Sarah Manton set to communicate with the new SEAADE President regarding potential DeNTS courses in Thailand and Indonesia.
