Call for Applications for a Chair and two Board Members for the MFDS Advisory Board Committee.
The Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) was established in 1982 and is the oldest, largest and most international of all the Surgical Royal Colleges in the UK.
MFDS Chair
The Faculty is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to lead the RCSEd team in continuing the delivery of the current MFDS Bi-Collegiate examination in partnership with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG).
To lead to the delivery of this key examination, the successful candidate should be engaged in clinical practice and in the training of dentists in training at DFT and DCT career stages.

In 2026, RCSEd, The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) will launch a new Tricollegiate Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) examination. This postholder will be responsible in ensuring we have a supportive approach to any transitional arrangements for this new examination.
MFDS Board Members
The Faculty is seeking committed and hard-working board members to help steer this important examination. As well as being engaged in clinical practice, the board members must be able to demonstrate experience of and commitment to professional dental examinations. These positions are ideal for those already active in examining and considering their next steps.

Applications for the Role of Chair are Open
The Faculty of Dental Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was launched in 2016 as the world’s first Faculty aimed at supporting the role of the dental trainer. Having three levels of membership, Associate, Member (MDTFEd) and Fellow (FDTFEd), the FDT recognises achievement and excellence in dental training and, ultimately, enhances the quality of patient care education on a global platform.
Today, dentists and dental care professionals in the FDT are represented across 27 countries, and we deliver patient care across many sectors and in multiple settings, from public and community services, hospital services, to the armed forces, colleges and universities.
The FDT is excited to open applications for the position of Chair. We are committed to recruiting an individual who is most suited to the post based solely on the applicant's abilities, qualifications, experience and merit as measured against the job description and person specification.
The Chair role is open to dentists who are Fellows of the Faculty in good standing.

The Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was created to promote and enhance the role of the surgical trainer. The Faculty is the first of its kind in the UK and are here to support and develop surgeons in their role as surgical trainers. The Faculty aims to increase the profile and recognition of surgical education and training and disseminate the message that excellent surgical training means excellent and safe patient care.
The Faculty has a diverse and growing membership spanning over 30 countries and is please to collaborate with a range of partners to drive innovation and recognise excellence in surgical training.
The Faculty is excited to open applications for the position of Chair. We are committed to recruiting an individual who is most suited to the post based solely on the applicant's abilities, qualifications, experience and merit as measured against the role description and person specification.
The Chair role is open to current Members and Fellows of the Faculty in good standing who if based in the UK, are a GMC-recognised trainer. There is no requirement to have previously served on the Executive Committee.

Download hereThe Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST) is an intercollegiate advisory body which acts on behalf of the four surgical Royal Colleges of the UK and Ireland. It is committed to developing, promoting and ensuring the highest possible standards of surgical training for the benefit of patients.
We are seeking to appoint one exceptional individual to lead a key area of the JCST’s research work under the overall direction of the JCST Chair.
JCST Research Lead
A strong commitment to research focussed on evaluating and improving surgical training is central to this role. The Research Lead will provide clinical leadership for this activity, developing a JCST research strategy and overseeing its delivery, and supporting JCST’s overall strategic goals.
Applicants should be established academic clinicians with a proven track record of clinical research activity within medicine or surgery and specifically a strong track record in research using large data sets or ‘big data’. Excellent leadership, management and interpersonal skills are also essential.
