The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh appoints two new Deans

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has appointed two new Deans – a Dean of Education and a Dean of Examinations to enhance our education & training, and assessment offerings.

Professor Jon Lund has been appointed as Dean of Education. He is currently Head of the Academic Department of Surgery, University of Nottingham, and Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital. He will shortly complete his term as Chair of the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST) before taking up his post at RCSEd.

In this voluntary role Jon will oversee all of the College’s educational offerings ensuring the highest of standards and access for all students. The College offers over 500 courses to support surgeons, dentists and the wider healthcare community covering clinical and non-technical skills and training at all levels. 

Mr John Hines has been appointed as Dean of Examinations. He is a consultant Urological Surgeon based at University College London and an Honorary Associate Professor, University College London. Mr Hines has recently completed his term as Chair of the Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examinations (ICBSE), and in this new voluntary role John will oversee all of the College’s surgical, dental and various healthcare related examinations, upholding standards of assessment to promote patient safety worldwide.
