The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh welcomes the new £1.57Billion investment into the NHS to tackle the backlog of elective care.
We are glad to see this extra investment going into the NHS. Treatment delays can leave patients in pain, and see their condition worsen leading to more complex issues and treatments being needed. Decreasing waiting lists and reducing waiting time for patients, will ease the pressure on clinical services and importantly will allow a quicker return to health, improving the quality of life for many of the population. We are particularly pleased that some of the money is earmarked for investment in surgical hubs, which we have been supportive of for a long time.
