The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is pleased with Amanda Pritchard’s comments today, regarding annual updates to the forthcoming NHS workforce plan.
New College President, Rowan Parks, commented:
“Workforce challenges remain the biggest issue facing the NHS and threaten the recovery from the pandemic. But it is an issue which has been long in the making, and will take time to resolve. The upcoming NHS Workforce Plan is a vital first step towards ensuring our NHS has the staffing levels it needs, but it cannot be a one-off event.
“Demographic changes and variations in population health will cause the needs of the NHS to change over time. Updating the workforce plan with OBR style annual revisions will allow the NHS to adapt to these changes over time, in the best interests of both NHS staff and patient safety.”
