The Scottish Royal Medical Colleges Statement on the COVID-19 Vaccine

The Royal Medical Colleges in Scotland welcome the news that a COVID-19 vaccine is now being rolled out in Scotland.

The Royal Medical Colleges in Scotland welcome the news that a COVID-19 vaccine is now being rolled out in Scotland.  This is a very welcome development in the fight against the virus.

The vaccination will only be truly effective if the vast majority of the population receive it, so we are urging all of those who are eligible, to be vaccinated when they are given the opportunity to do so.  If large numbers of people do not receive the vaccine, we cannot truly eradicate the spread of the virus.  It’s especially important that healthcare workers take up the offer of vaccine when it is made available to them, along with the flu vaccine which is offered to this group every year.

We believe it is our duty as Royal Medical Colleges to emphasise the advantages of being vaccinated, and we strongly encourage all of those who are eligible, to receive the vaccine.
