Last month the RCSEd Faculty of Dental Surgery held its first ever International Dental Clinical Skills Competition at Newgiza University (NGU), Egypt.
NGU is a private, multidisciplinary institution in Cairo, Egypt, situated on the iconic Giza Plateau, just minutes from the Great Pyramids. Established to offer top-tier education to students from Egypt and beyond, NGU provides a broad spectrum of faculties, including Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Business, and Finance, serving as a launchpad for successful careers.
Twelve final-year dental students competed on the day from Alexandria University, Al-Azhar University and the hosts at NGU in a range of different challenges to test the skills and knowledge of the competitors.
The welcome from NGU for the undergraduates and RCS Faculty team was superb. The facilities available for the competition were first class, including a spacious and well-equipped phantom head room. While competitive, the undergraduates thoroughly enjoyed their day giving them the opportunity to meet and chat with fellow students from other Universities in Egypt and interact with senior members of the College. We are most grateful to the NGU team for the use of their facilities and their organisational assistance on the competition day.
RCSEd Dental Vice Dean, Mr William McLaughlin commented:
The competition was fierce on the day, but Amr Mohamed from NGU took first place with Yousef Salah Mahmoud Mashely from Al-Azhar University coming a very close second and Rony Raafat from NGU hot on the heels coming third.
We would like to thank our hosts at NGU for the smooth running of the competition and very kind hospitality provided. We hope to be back with the competition soon!
