New Resources from CPOC Enhance Patient Preparation for and Recovery from Surgery

The College and the Patient Safety Group are delighted to be supporting and promoting the great work of the Centre for Peri-Operative Care (CPOC) in driving improvements in the care of patients undergoing surgery.

The new Smoking Cessation, Exercise and Nutrition resources will go a long way to help patients both prepare for and recover from surgery.

Stopping smoking really is the best thing anyone can do for their health and to reduce the risk of a bad result after surgery. The World Health Organization showed that stopping smoking reduces the risk of complications following surgery by 50%. Find out more here >

Staying active is one of the best things that patients can do whilst waiting for surgery. Those who get fitter before surgery lower their risk of complications, leading to less time in intensive care, shorter bed stays and better outcomes. Learn more >
