Nominations Sought for College Council Vacancy

Published: 9 February 2023 | College, Council, Fellows, RCSEd Council

The Council of the College is seeking nominations for three vacancies which will arise on Council at the AGM in November 2023 when Mr Silva, Professor Watson and Mr Vittal will come to the end of their terms of office.

Nominees must be Fellows of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in good standing with the College and the appropriate professional regulator. Council Members are elected by the College’s Fellows and Members and as a charitable organisation, are appointed as Trustees of the College.

This is an exciting and important role as part of the governing body of the College which represents the professional interests of the College's membership. Decisions made by Council formulate policy and direct the College in its mission to promote the highest standards of surgical practice. Council comprises five Office-Bearers, 15 elected members, one elected Trainee member, one elected SAS representative and the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery. Council Members are expected to commit a minimum of 15 working days per annum on site for this role, in addition to other College duties, for a five year term.

The deadline for nominations is 19 May 2023. For further information and nomination requirements, please view the RCSEd College Council Notice Call for Nominations 2023 document below.

The College’s membership is diverse and we aspire to ensure that this diversity is represented through our internal governance and decision-making structures, whether this be via appointed or elected positions. In all cases, we particularly welcome applications or nominations from suitably qualified individuals from protected characteristic groups that are currently underrepresented on College boards, committees or groups, who may bring different experiences, skills and perspectives to our discussions and decision-making. Reasonable adjustments for disability will be implemented for those who require them.
