The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh comments on Ukraine crisis and its impact on healthcare workers:
We are deeply distressed by the ongoing situation in Ukraine. On behalf of our UK and international membership, we are sending a message of solidarity to all those affected, particularly healthcare workers who are striving to help the most vulnerable. We are working closely with our partners across the healthcare and humanitarian fields to decide how best to provide meaningful support and assistance to those in need.
Professor Michael Griffin OBE, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges have released a statement calling for all to show solidarity to the people in Ukraine by donating to The Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal:
As the horrific scenes unfold in Ukraine we, like many other individuals and organisations have been thinking about what we can do to help. And while we cannot directly influence events, we can show our support in other ways. As an expression of solidarity with the people of the region we are asking members of the medical profession to give money if they can to The Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
We do not know where this will end, but we do know there are soon likely to be thousands of people who will be in need of food, shelter and healthcare. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges has made a donation to this important cause and we urge others to do the same.
