The post of SAS member of Council becomes vacant when Mrs Victoria Dobie comes to the end of her term of appointment in November 2021.
The successful candidate shall serve on Council for the five-year period from 12 November 2021 to November 2026, demitting office at the AGM in that year. The SAS member will have full voting rights on Council except on Trustee matters relating to the charitable part of the organisation.
Eligibility to Stand for Election
Any candidate wishing to stand for election must:
- Be UK-based, affiliated to the Edinburgh College and be in good standing.
- Be a holder of the MRCS or FRCS/MFDS or FDS.
- Be an SAS doctor or SAS dental surgeon.
- Have a proposer and seconder, both of whom should be eligible to vote in this election (see below for criteria).
- Provide supporting documentation from his/her Trust/employer granting appropriate leave or circumstance to fulfil the commitments of this role.
If the SAS member is unable to complete his/her five-year term, then a new election process shall be initiated.
Eligibility to Vote in the Election
All UK-based MRCS or FRCS holders and MFDS and FDS holders affiliated to this College and who are SAS doctors/dental surgeons are eligible to vote. Being in good standing with the College is a pre-requisite of eligibility.
Timeline
The deadline for receipt of candidate nomination forms is 1600 hours on 29 July 2021. The deadline for receipt of candidate statements is 1600 hours on 12 August 2021. Candidate ballot forms and candidate statements will be issued to the registered electorate on 26 August 2021.
The deadline for return of ballot papers will be 1600 hours on 23 September 2021 and the announcement of the successful candidate will be made on 1 October 2021. It is anticipated that the SAS member’s first attendance at Council will be in November 2021.
