The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is very pleased that The Queen has bestowed the George Cross on the NHS.

College President Prof. Mike Griffin commented

“I am delighted that Her Majesty has chosen to recognise the courage, compassion and dedication shown by our NHS staff during the pandemic with this award.

The George Cross is awarded for most conspicuous courage in circumstance of extreme danger, a fitting description of the way our healthcare workers across the four nations of the United Kingdom, whether doctors, nurses, cleaners, cooks, diagnostics, support or administration staff, have responded to this, the most difficult year of Her Majesty’s reign.”
