The Cardiothoracic SSB is delighted to share the successful SCP Exams in the College.
Surgical care practitioner exams were held in the Edinburgh College on the 2-3 December 2021. The exam has evolved over the years from what used to be an in-house assessment to structured exam based on the curriculum. After cohesive and collaborative working between the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland (SCTS), The Association of Surgical Care Practitioners in Cardiothoracic Surgery (ACTSCP) and The College, it was agreed to hold the exams in Edinburgh. It comprised of multiple choice questions and structured oral examinations.
The proceedings of the second day started with RCSEd President Professor Michael Griffin coming in for the Examiners briefing and inaugurating the exams. The candidates were examined by a pairing of a consultant surgeon and a surgical care practitioner. Due diligence was followed including quality assurance by senior examiners. The successful candidates will be invited to the Faculty of Perioperative Care of the College.
