Remote Delivery of the MRCS Part A

Published: 17 July 2020

The four Surgical Royal Colleges are pleased to announce that the September 2020 MRCS Part A examination will be delivered remotely as an online assessment. As a consequence, the capacity of this examination will no longer be limited by COVID-19 restrictions and candidates will be able to sit the examination without the requirement to travel to an examination centre. The format and syllabus of the examination will remain the same.

The examination will take place on 15 September 2020 only; all candidates who have applied to sit the MRCS Part A in September, along with those who have been transferred from the April 2020 diet, will be accommodated on this date.

In order to sit the examination remotely, candidates will need a computer or laptop with a camera, along with internet connectivity. More detailed equipment requirements, along with an overview of how online delivery will work, will be provided for candidates with their admission letters, which will be emailed to candidates no later than four weeks prior to the examination. A ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ document will also be prepared and published on College websites once it is available.

Colleges are aware that certain international venues may require alternative arrangements. These will only be provided at the discretion of individual Colleges, and details will be advised to affected candidates by the host College.
