The RCSEd & Medtronic 2023/2024 Surgical Skills Competition is fast approaching! We look forward to welcoming the competition finalists to Edinburgh on Saturday 16 March 2024 for what will be an exciting day that will put participants' skills to the test.

Chloe Anderton, who took home joint 3rd place in last year's competition, shares some words about the experience.

Chloe Anderton with RCSEd Vice-President Clare McNaught

As I reflect upon the last few years of my ongoing medical education, my participation in the RCSEd & Medtronic Surgical Skills Competition certainly stands out as one of the key highlights of my pre-clinical years. I initially engaged with the competition with the hope of gaining further insight into the practical skills required for a career in surgery, and meeting other like-minded students who were keen to learn more about the demands of surgical training.

The competition itself exceeded all of my expectations: not only was my dexterity and ability to work under pressure put to the test, but I found myself surrounded by some of the most inspirational students, surgeons, and clinical educators, from all corners of the United Kingdom. I left the competition with new-found friendships, a clearer perspective of the pathway to surgical training, and advice which I will carry with me as I continue my medical education and commence my clinical career. Ultimately, I remain incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in last years competition, and will continue to encourage my peers to get involved in the future!

Best of luck to our 2024 finalists!
