The RCSEd invites you to attend our 2022 Chennai Conference to network and discover the innovations which have been developed internationally during a very challenging period.

At the conference you will have the opportunity to meet senior members of the Dental Faculty, who will cover topics ranging from occlusion to implants or education.

Professor Shakeel Shahdad, one of the world’s most respected clinicians in the field of implantology, will give a talk not to be missed about this topic.

Dr Sarah Manton, the Director of our Faculty of Dental Trainers, will cover patient safety in dentistry and will discuss new tools for assessing the non-technical skills of dentists. Her other talk, ‘Using workplace-based assessments to assess dental trainees: why, when and how’ will equip trainers with essential skills for the workplace. Similarly, Professor Barry Quinn will explore whether haptics is changing dental training and their place in dental education today. Finally, I will have the pleasure to give a lecture on ‘Occlusion: removing the mystery’.

Dr Sarah Manton and I will also introduce our Faculty of Dental Surgeons (FDS) and our Faculty of Dental Trainers (FDT). Our convener of examinations, Dr Timothy O’Brien, will introduce our suite of dental exams, and you will have the opportunity to discuss how our examinations can enhance your or your trainees’ career prospects. You will be able to find out how our range of assessments can support and enhance your career, and we will explain the requirements and benefits of becoming a College Member.

Please also do not miss our fantastic poster competition, which will run both on the Thursday and Friday. As a presenter, you will have an opportunity to introduce your work, enhance your CV and receive recognition that you were accepted onto the competition by one of the most prestigious educational organisations in the world.

This conference will provide a platform to share information and harbour collaboration amongst people studying and working within dentistry. We will offer opportunities to socialise, network and discuss with colleagues from all over the world and to meet, face-to-face, in the fabulous setting of the ITC Grand Chola Hotel in Chennai. Me and my colleagues from the Faculty’s Dental Executive and Dental Council are looking forward to seeing you there.

Thanks,

Professor Philip Taylor, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery
