The Faculty of Dental Surgery is pleased to announce the election of a new Vice Dean. Grant McIntyre will take office at the Dental AGM in September 2022 for a three-year term.

The Dental Dean, Professor Phil Taylor said:

We are delighted to welcome Professor Grant McIntyre to the role of Vice Dean of the Dental Faculty. Grant already comes to the job with a vast knowledge at senior level of both the workings of Dental Council and as a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Orthodontics.”

As honorary professor at Dundee Dental School, as clinical director for Tayside NHS Trust and holding a consultant post as a lead for facial deformity and cleft lip and palate, Grant is one of the foremost clinicians in the UK.

As we welcome Grant we say goodbye to one of the longest serving members of the Executive and thank you for all the hard work that Professor Helen Craddock has done for the Faculty and College alike. She was the voice that revived the general dentistry arm of the Faculty and brought the MAGDS exam into existence thus following her own, and my, career pathway. She initiated and brought to life the excellent and vibrant Ambassador pathways that exist today and without her enthusiasm this would never have happened in such a short period of time. We wish her the very best for the future.”

Grant McIntyre is an NHS Consultant and Honorary Professor in Orthodontics and Joint Clinical Director at Dundee Dental Research Hospital & School. Within the College, Grant is an examiner for MFDS and MOrth and has been a Member of Dental Council since 2014. Grant's clinical work involves the orthodontic management of facial deformity, TMJ-orthognathic cases and cleft lip and palate along with being an Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor for a number of Core and Specialty Trainees. Grant's research work relates to evidence-based clinical care, cleft lip and palate, and imaging, with his research interests involving supervision of Masters and PhD students with over 110 publications to date. Grant is looking forward to the challenge of becoming Vice-Dean of the Dental Faculty.
