As an organisation focused on improving standards of surgical care and patient outcomes, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is extremely concerned about the recent publication in the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) (“Laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by a surgical care practitioner: a review of outcomes”) detailing the experience of a Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) performing laparoscopic cholecystectomies.

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), setting out their mutual commitment to collaboration and to exploring future opportunities for joint working in the areas of medical education, training and research.
An Important ICBSE Update on the MRCS Part B and DO-HNS Part 2 Examinations in the UK and Ireland
Following our announcement last month that the MRCS Part B and DO-HNS Part 2 examinations would not take place in February 2021, ICBSE can now confirm that the next MRCS Part B and DO-HNS Part 2 examinations will take place in May 2021, as originally scheduled.
FSSA Clinical Guide to Surgical Prioritisation During the Coronavirus Pandemic

This Guide was first produced at the request of NHS England at the start of the pandemic. It is written by specialists in the procedures listed and is updated every month. It sets out what clinicians view as the relative priorities of conditions at the time it is posted. The Guide is a short term expedient to the pandemic and not for long term use.
