Attention all medical students!
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh 2024/25 Surgical Skills Competition — an extraordinary opportunity for you to skill up and stand out.
This competition is open to students from all medical schools across the UK, whether you’re in your first year or your last. If you’re thinking about a career in surgery or just interested in adding another event to your portfolio, this is a great opportunity. No experience in surgery is necessary to participate! What to Expect:
- Online Quiz: After you register, you will be sent an online quiz. The top 5 scoring participants from each medical school will move onto the next round.
- Skills Kit Video Round: If you moved onto the next round, you will be sent a skills kit. We will ask you to perform three skills (you will have time to practise). You will video yourself doing these and send them in. Your videos will be scored by College markers. The top score from each medical school will move onto the final. We will also award a trophy to the top scoring medical school!
- Grand Final: You’ve registered, you’ve gotten a top score on the quiz and top score on your suturing skills in your own medical school – now it’s time to compete against other medical schools! If you’ve scored the highest at your medical school in the video round, you will be invited to Edinburgh to compete in the Grand Final. This is a one-day event on Saturday 15 March 2025. You will travel to Edinburgh the Friday evening before, have a dinner with peers from other medical schools, and then get ready to compete on Saturday! The College covers the cost of travel and accommodation.
