"Bullying within the profession is a problem"

Chair of General Medical Council (GMC), Dame Clare Marx said 'bullying of doctors by senior colleagues is a problem which could effect patient care" as a new initiative is launched in a bid to tackle these issues.

Professor Mike Griffin OBE, President of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh responded by saying:

“The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh appreciates the important statement the GMC are making with today’s announcement. Put simply given their damaging impact on patient care, bullying, undermining and harassment have no place in the modern NHS.

“It is clear that the size and scale of workforce bullying in the NHS requires long term and co-ordinated action at every level. We have been delighted to work with the GMC to develop this module and are grateful for their proactive approach to working with doctors to tackle this issue”
