RCSEd Responds to NHS England Performance Data | The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh

Following the release of today’s NHS performance data, Professor Michael Lavelle-Jones, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh said:

“The release of this morning’s data highlights the extreme pressures currently being faced by the NHS. The statistics expose the extent of the English NHS crisis with only 85.1% of A & E patients being seen within four hours despite the 95% target. This is also being reflected in Scotland where the most recent performance data shows that only 78% of patients are being seen within four hours.

NHS staff are continuing to go above and beyond, however the NHS cannot continue to run on their goodwill alone.

The statistics support Chris Hopson’s comments, made on behalf of NHS Providers, that the NHS urgently requires a new long term funding settlement in addition to RCSEd’s previous call for work to be undertaken to address the NHS’s lack of capacity and resilience.
