Honorary Secretary, Clare McNaught, updates our Members on the important outcomes from the College Council meeting:
Dear Member
I am writing to inform you of an important outcome of an extra-ordinary Council meeting, which was held virtually on the 9th December.
In light of the challenging environment brought about this year by the Covid pandemic, the Council ratified a special resolution to extend the term of office of the President and Vice-Presidents from three to four years. Such a step is permitted, in exceptional circumstances, under College Laws 5 and 6.
The Council felt that this short extension to their tenure would provide an important extended period of stability for the College as we continue to deliver our education, examination and outreach activities and at the same time addressing the significant financial and organisational impacts of the pandemic.
I am delighted to report that the President and both Vice-Presidents have accepted this extension to their service. On behalf of Council, I would like to thank Professor Michael Griffin, Mr Pala Rajesh and Professor Rowan Parks for their outstanding leadership during this difficult year and for their continued commitment to the College. In the coming months, we look forward delivering many of the planned activities that have not been possible during 2020.
As a result of this decision, the next call for nominations for the elections of the President and Vice-Presidents of the RCSEd shall take place in March and June 2022 respectively.
I am sure you will join me in congratulating all three Office Bearers on their extended terms of office.
I wish you all a prosperous and healthy New Year in 2021 and I hope that we can meet in person again soon.
Yours sincerely
Clare McNaught
Honorary Secretary
