Responding to the news that the government will revoke the surcharge on overseas doctors coming into the UK, Prof Michael Griffin OBE said:
“I am delighted that the government has listened to the medical profession and removed this unnecessary charge.
Colleagues from across the world help make the NHS the world class institution it is. We have been calling for this for sometime and it forms part of the manifesto for international doctors we produced at the onset of the pandemic. Since then, a number of overseas doctors have tragically lost their lives dealing with the Covid pandemic, so this is move is welcome if somewhat overdue."
