The College is delighted to welcome new Fellows, Members and Associates to the Diploma Ceremony at the College in Edinburgh on 13 March 2020. Diplomates will be joined by those receiving special awards, including Dr Vanessa Kay who will deliver the Address to the Diplomates at the end of the ceremony. Dr Kay is Director of Surgical Skills at the Dundee Institute of Healthcare Simulation, and Honorary Consultant Gynaecologist in Ninewells Hospital. Dr Kay will be presented with Fellowship Ad Hominem in recognition of her support of surgical training. The Fellowship will be presented by Professor Rowan Parks, RCSEd Vice-President who said:
“Since becoming Director of the Surgical Skills Unit in Dundee, Dr Kay has been instrumental in various projects to support the development of surgical training. She has overseen the development of new courses in General Surgery, Neurosurgery, T&O as well as Gynaecology. She is a member of the Scottish Surgical Simulation Collaborative and has supported the implementation of ‘Improving Surgical Training’ in Scotland by developing various laparoscopic and arthroscopic courses.”
Also receiving a special award is Professor Mark Stringer, Honorary Professor in Paediatric Surgery at Wellington Hospital and the University of Otago. He will receive the Farquharson Award in recognition of his contributions to surgical teaching and surgical anatomy.
