Submission for the upcoming award round for the Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA) will open on Thursday 7 February. As such, the College urges any Consultant who meets the criteria to apply for an award or advancement of an award, to start the application process as soon as possible.
We require the following documents to be submitted, in order for candidates to be considered for College support:
- The appropriately completed ACCEA application forms (available via the ACCEA website). Please note that we will accept submissions for internal purposes on 2018 forms.
- A short paragraph outlining the duties you currently undertake on behalf of the College and your contributions to surgery both locally and nationally.
Guidelines presented by the ACCEA suggest that is unlikely that a consultant will be considered for an advancement of an award within five years of receipt. It must also be noted that repeat submission will not increase the prospects of success. All applications are deemed on their own merit, from a fresh stand point each year, with the standard set at a high level.
The College's involvement is welcomed by ACCEA since it is in a position to highlight excellence at both a national and international level. However, the number of nominations offered has recently been capped at no more than three for each of the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.
Platinum awards are submitted to ACCEA directly by the Academy of Royal Colleges, with RCSEd in a position to put forward would be candidates to Fellows of the Academy. The College Awards Committee (consisting of College Fellows who are Senior Award Holders) decision will be based on the strength of the consultant's ACCEA CV form together with information and advice sought from local senior award holders, College Regional Advisers and senior College Office Bearers.
The closing date for submissions is Friday 22 February 2019. Late submissions will not be accepted in any circumstances.
