The College President Professor Michael Griffin has been awarded the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO) Raven Lifetime Achievement Award at their November 2019 Conference. BASO - The Association for Cancer Surgery awarded the President last month in London.
On receiving the award, Professor Griffin said:
“I was deeply honoured to receive the BASO Raven Lifetime Achievement Award for Cancer Care at the recent British Association of Surgical Oncology meeting at the Law Society in London. Having spent 30 years running the largest cancer unit in Europe and North America for patients suffering from oesophagogastric cancer, it was a fitting tribute to all who worked within the unit. These include specialist anaesthetists, physiotherapists, dieticians and of course specialist nurses who coordinate the cancer journeys for so many patients and our specialist nurses looking after patients in the perioperative period. We have transformed outcomes from these historically lethal cancers to curing over half of the patients that receive curative treatment. Over the last 30 years, the results of treatment have been transformed and I am proud that our team have had a major role in achieving this.”
