Faculty of Surgical Trainers Annual Meeting 2019

Published: 25 October 2019

The Faculty of Surgical Trainers' Annual Meeting is underway today at The Studio in Birmingham.

The programme builds on the fundamentals instilled from the faculty's previous work, and continues debate set at this year's International Conference on Surgical Education and Training (ICOSET).  Today's conference is giving delegates the opportunity to network with leaders in surgical training, to share their ideas and play a key role in shaping the future of surgical training.

The conference is updating trainers with the new surgical curriculum as well as questioning the value of run through training. Through presentations, debates and workshops around the future of the surgical trainer, delegates are being asked to explore the professionalisation of the surgical trainer and asked what does this mean for the individual, and for the micro, meso and macro elements of our system?

The FST is also delighted to be awarding the inaugural FST Medal for Exceptional Contributions to Surgical Training to Ms Rachel Hargest.  She is a key note speaker today and has dedicated her life to surgical education. Rachel won the Silver Scalpel Award in 2017. Her support for trainees and students and commitment to excellence in training over many years make her a worthy recipient of our first medal.
