Association of Anaesthetists Endorses RCSEd #LetsRemoveIt Campaign

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is delighted to announce that the Association of Anaesthetists, the representative body of over 11,000 anaesthetists worldwide, has endorsed #LetsRemoveIt, the College’s ongoing campaign against bullying and undermining.

#LetsRemoveIt aims to address bullying and undermining behaviours within the workplace and to encourage wider cultural change amongst the healthcare professions.

RCSEd President, Professor Mike Griffin OBE, said:

“We are pleased that the Association has endorsed the campaign and we look forward to working closely with our anaesthetic colleagues across the UK to address bullying and undermining behaviours. Surgeons work extremely closely with anaesthetists and it is vital that we work together to eradicate bullying and undermining from the surgical environment.”

Association of Anaesthetists President Dr Kathleen Ferguson said:

“We know that evidence shows the negative impact incivility can have on diagnosis and clinical decision making as well as patient outcomes.

“Campaigns like #LetsRemoveIt have an important role to play in removing behaviours like this from healthcare and as anaesthesia is the largest speciality group in the NHS, anaesthetists are well placed to work with the surgeons in playing a leadership role in promoting a positive culture. The Association is pleased to be able to support the Royal College’s campaign.”
