RCSEd was proud to award a number of medals in recognition and celebration of outstanding services to surgery at its diploma ceremony on Friday 26 April.
Among those honoured were Mr Charlie Auld (pictured centre below), whose enormous contribution to developing the College's Faculty of Perioperative Care (FPC) saw him receive the College Medal for outstanding service to the College. Professor Eric Borgstein also received the College International Medal in recognition of his services to surgery in Malawi.
A total of 76 medals and diplomas were presented on the day to diplomates at all stages of their professional careers. As befits a College with a global membership, diplomates and their families travelled to Edinburgh from all over the world, including Libya, China, Sri Lanka, the USA and Sudan well as the length and breadth of the British Isles, to receive their awards and take pride in their achievements.
These awards represent the culmination of hard work, dedication and sacrifice but as Professor Borgstein importantly concluded in his closing address to the diplomates, ‘We never stop learning’.
